13 Jul 2024 – Every year during the July school holidays NZ Curling hosts a training camp with incredible support from the World Curling Federation's DAP programme. We are grateful for this generous support, which is instrumental in providing a unique learning experience for our participants.
This year's Camp at Maniototo Adventure Park was even more unique, with 16 athletes from the Australian Curling Federation joining us, marking a significant step towards collaboration and the growth of the sport.
At the camp, participants honed their skills in line of delivery, received personal video analysis, discussed strategy, engaged in sweeping sessions and drills, and got game time.
They learned from inspiring guest speakers, including an insightful talk from NZ Men's Skip Anton Hood who shared not only the highs but also the lows of his career, inspiring our participants that from humble beginnings, you can do anything.
Participants also learned about the Spirit of Curling, a fundamental and traditional part of the game that emphasises respect, sportsmanship, conduct and camaraderie. It was a fabulous development for our rangitahi (youths) to connect with our friends from across the ditch and athletes from other schools in Otago.
Huge thanks to everyone making it possible, and to World Curling for their generous support of such development in curling.
