The NZCA governs both the indoor and outdoor versions of the sport, with the aim of engaging participants at all ages, stages and skill levels to enjoy our sport. The Spirit of Curling is alive and well in New Zealand, governing both the game's play and how our values are brought to life in our interactions with each other and our communities.
The sport of curling in New Zealand is currently entering a period of significant change and opportunity. With a modernised Constitution adopted at the recent AGM, a purpose-built facility under construction in Auckland and teams competing for places at the Winter Olympic Games, the New Zealand Curling Association (NZCA) is seeking passionate and skilled individuals to help nurture and grow our wonderful sport.
About the Roles
As a Director, you will:
- Ensure the NZCA meets all legal and constitutional requirements.
- Govern with integrity, accountability, and foresight in the interests of members and stakeholders.
- Contribute to strategy, financial oversight, and sector growth.
- Champion the values of Spirit (Wairua), Participation (Whai Wāhi), Integrity (Ngākau Pono), Camaraderie (Whanaungatanga), Enjoyment (Hakinakina) and Development (Wakawhanake).
- Govern the work of various Operational Committees responsible for the day-to-day running of our sport.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals who bring:
- A commitment to good governance and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to look ahead.
- High ethical standards, integrity, and collective responsibility.
- Sound financial literacy and informed judgement.
- Knowledge of (or willingness to learn about) the sport of curling and the sports sector.
- The ability to engage constructively in Board discussions and decisions.
The positions have arisen as a result of the NZCA adopting an updated Constitution, which has laid out a new governance structure. New Directors will be presented to the members for ratification at our AGM in March 2026. There are five (5) positions available, and while the NZCA expects some interest from inside the curling community, it is committed to ensuring it recruits a Board that brings diverse skills and experiences. The NZCA conforms with Sport New Zealand’s National Policy for Gender Equity in Governance, and accordingly, there is a requirement that 40% of the Board is female.
Directors are appointed for three years, with the option of up to two further terms. To create a balanced split of Director terms, in the initial set-up phase, there will be two (2) steps down in the first and second years, and one (1) in 3rd year.
