Kiwi goals for World Mixed Championship

 Mixed Doubles

NZ v Hong Kong, 2023 Qualifying Event

17 Apr 2024 – Three years after their first appearance at the World Mixed Doubles Championship in 2021, Courtney Smith and Anton Hood are excited to be back.

The 2024 Championship, which also earns Winter Olympic qualification points, is being held in Oestersund, Sweden.

NZ was relegated after the 2022 event, and the pair have had two attempts to earn re-entry for their country via the World Qualification Event.

In December 2022 they missed out in a winner-takes-all match against the Netherlands, losing on the last stone of an extra end. The situation was reversed last December when the Kiwis won the extra end of their final qualification match against Finland.

At both events they were coached by David Ramsay, who will be in the Kiwis' corner again in Sweden.

"We're stoked to be back up in the World Championship," said Anton Hood. "We know how hard it is to get here, so our primary goal for the week is to stay up in the 'A' group."

"But top-10 would be an incredible result for Olympic points. In saying all this though, we'll take it one shot, one game at a time."

This tournament, and the World Senior Championships, will run from 20 to 27 April at the Oestersund Arena. The Mixed Doubles teams will play in two pools of ten until Thursday 25th, then playoffs and relegation games will follow.

Games will be streamed and replayed on The Curling Channel.
